Hampton Island Preserve, Riceboro, Georgia

The 4,000-acre island, with lakes and tracts of pines, live oaks and water oaks, purchased in 2003 to be developed as a private club and second-home community. Amenities include a wine program, an organic farm, four spas and a hunting lodge. Two amphibious planes shuttling members to a 31-foot sport fishing boat reside in unique hangars constructed with glulam trusses and beams supported by round timber pilings blending well with the natural environment.

Topping the detailer’s “wish list” for geometric challenges, the combination of 10” x 18” solid Western Red Cedar beams and steel angle rafters make up a series of fan-shaped, multi-pitched roofs make this residence an absolute show-place. End result, a cozy yet functional abode any homeowner would be proud of.
