Kansas City Zoo Kansas, Missouri
Completed in May of 2007, The Endangered Species Carousel at the Kansas City Zoo
has a dodecagon (12-sided polygon) Glulam Column & Rafter cover. The entry of the
structure also features elegant Curved Glulam Beams. The universally accessible
carousel features thirty-six figures and two stationary animal chariots that are
ADA/Wheelchair accessible, one of which has a companion seat. Each figure represents
an endangered species, a species featured at the zoo, or area mascots. These two distinct
pieces of engineering, the carousel and the Glulam cover, blend seamlessly together the
form one beautiful addition to the Kansas City Zoo.
